The Argentina Cup is the most important elimination tournament in the country. It was founded in 1969 and was attended by all the clubs of the Primera División Argentina that they were not qualified for the Copa Libertadores . In 1970, the championship was held again, but the final between San Lorenzo and Vélez was never completed. Its third edition was not held until more than 40 years later.

On March 17, the AFA decreed its temporary suspension to prevent the spread of the virus. After a break of more than six months, the ball rolled again on December 23, 2020. The final is scheduled to take place in November 2021. The champion was to qualify for the Copa Libertadores , but this competition was not going to end before its start. The organizers awarded the place to the best team in the Super League that had not yet entered the continental event.
