The 2020 edition of the competition was severely affected by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. First, it was announced that amateur teams would not participate in it exceptionally. Subsequently, Deportes Puerto Montt rejected the place. On December 26 of that same year, the ANFP officially announced that the Chile Cup would resume in the summer of 2021.
